Bruyère Health Élisabeth-Bruyère Long-Term Care

Bruyère Health Élisabeth-Bruyère Long-Term Care is a 71-bed bilingual long-term care home near the historic ByWard Market. It is connected to Bruyère Health Élisabeth-Bruyère Hospital.

Geriatric Rehabilitation (Levels 3 & 6)

We have inpatient and outpatient geriatric rehabilitation programs to help patients build their strength so they can return to living in the community.

As the only service of its kind in the Ottawa region, our inpatient program is for those recovering from a recent illness, injury, surgery, or any condition resulting in a loss of function and independence.

Our outpatient program provides assessment and treatment for seniors, helping to tailor supports and provide advice to help patients build strength and stay at home longer. This can be educational talks on topics from medication use to home safety, exercises to help with function and mobility, and more.

Stroke Rehabilitation (Level 4)

We are a centre of expertise in stroke rehabilitation, offering specialized inpatient and outpatient services. The continuum is designed to allow patients to move to the most appropriate service as their recovery progresses.

Our inpatient program provides specialized stroke rehabilitation to patients in the early stages of recovery. Patients receive comprehensive assessments and intensive, daily therapies in an environment that is designed to reinforce and consolidate new skills.

Through our outpatient program, we provide services to help patients continue to work on their rehabilitation goals following their discharge from inpatient care programs. Around 85% of our patients return home to the community annually.

Memory Program

The Bruyère Memory Program is Eastern Ontario’s only dedicated academic group of health care professionals specializing in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of cognitive impairment for those with dementia and Alzheimer disease. We work to confirm a diagnosis to optimize treatment, as well as focus on symptom alleviation and lifestyle supports for patients.

Our care teams provide access to non-medication intervention research for treatment. This can include Vielight, a device that sends low-light LED to the brain that improves cognitive functioning and quality of life for those with Alzheimer's or smart sensors that does the same for patients with dementia.

Geriatric Assessment Outreach Team

The Geriatric Assessment Outreach Team members are nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and social workers who provide comprehensive assessments for community members who are 65 years and older.

The team works in the community by doing an overall review of patient’s health and day-to-day functioning including medical concerns, medications, personal care, nutrition, safety, home environment and more.

Transitional Care (2BD)

We provide transitional care to patients at risk of wandering so that they can transition back to the community such as to a long-term care home or to their own home with care services.

Photoderm and Dermatology Clinics

Our dermatology clinic offers consultation for patients with skin conditions as well as surgical procedures for the removal of skin tags, keloids, benign lesions, and skin cancers.

Our Photoderm clinic offers treatment to patients with psoriasis and other photo-responsive skin conditions. Phototherapy is done using an ultraviolet light unit.

Both clinics operate by referral only.

Family Medicine Centres

Our academic family health teams deliver primary health care to over 18,000 patients from the community.

The Bruyère Clinic on our Élisabeth Bruyère site is a site of the Bruyère Academic Family Health Team, and the Saint-Vincent site houses the Primrose Clinic

Affiliated with the University of Ottawa, our staff and faculty provide comprehensive care to patients, education and development for health professionals, and socially responsive research. The teams work closely with organizations that help under-serviced populations, such as St. Mary’s Home for young families, May Court Hospice, The Mission, and settlement organizations among others.
