About:

Janet Corral, PhD is Chair of Western Group on Educational Affairs (WGEA) and Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Ottawa. Her leadership and research focuses on innovations in curriculum to enact the learning sciences, health equity, and competency-based education. Her research, published in The Oxford Textbook of Medical Education, and top peer-reviewed journals, has focused on developing trainees’ expertise in ill-structured domains, including the use of analytics and human factors approaches to bring about solutions in a systems context.

She has won awards for curriculum design, simulation, and educational leadership, including the AMEE Aspire award for faculty development. In addition to her role as Chair of the WGEA, she is a steering committee member for Best Evidence Medical Education, which is an international collaboration of the Association of Medical Education of Europe. She is a past steering committee member of the Group on Informatics Resources, and the Academies Collaborative, in the Association of American Medical Colleges.

She has served in multiple senior leadership roles in Canadian and US institutions; helped create the Entrada consortium, a learning management system in use in 20 medical schools worldwide (now called Elentra); and a contributor to the open-source virtual patient project, OpenLabyrinth. She values building great teams and is proud of her mentees’ ongoing successes nationally and internationally.
