Report to our community 2017-18

Message from the Bruyère Foundation Board Chair and CEO

This has been another incredibly inspiring year for Bruyère.

Thanks to your support, Bruyère is changing the lives of people every day. We’re building the future model of care through state-of-the-art technology and research.

We are not only building a stronger Bruyère, but a stronger health system. You may not know this, but most patients go to Bruyère after they’ve been to one of the many acute care hospitals in our region. They will save your life, and Bruyère will work with you to help you regain your quality of life.

This is an important time for Bruyère, as we begin to re-envision the future.

The Bruyère Foundation has embarked on the largest fundraising campaign in its history. Together, with the help of our community, we will find solutions to keep the next generation of seniors and medically complex patients healthier than the last.

Helping us achieve our ambitious goals is our recently acquired Life Changing Ambassador, the one and only Henry Burris, CTV Morning Live Anchor and Champion Quarterback for the Ottawa Redblacks. We are so proud to have Henry’s influential support and leadership.

Message from Henry Burris – Bruyère’s Life Changing Ambassador

Henry Burris posing with an aging manI recently joined Bruyère as their newest Ambassador. It’s a real privilege for me. The more I learn about Bruyère, the more I want to help. I was recently humbled to learn that Bruyère is the second largest health care provider in the region, next to the Ottawa Hospital, and the largest of its kind in Canada but without the extensive recognition and
support. It is my hope and my wish, that through individuals like you, we will help Bruyère to be better understood, better recognized and better appreciated, for the services that it provides for so many in our region and beyond.

As a former quarterback, I have experienced many highs and lows in my career. My team, both on and off the field, made the difference for me in so many ways. The great teammates around me, along with the best coaches, equipment and technology,
made me successful; every win was attributed to them. This is something Bruyère understands. We make the greatest impact as a team, supported by state of the art tools in the most modern environment.

When you live in Ottawa, two things are certain. You grow very thankful for living in such a wonderful and giving community and, at some point, you will benefit from the services of Bruyère. Bruyère is here for all of us! We need to be there for Bruyère.

I had the pleasure to meet a wonderful man named Heinz who had recently completed a 10-week outpatient rehabilitation program with Bruyère. At 86 years old, Heinz is full of life and vitality! He credits Bruyère with having given him his life back. I am so honoured to meet and to get to know the wonderful people who Bruyère has helped, like Heinz.

As you may know, my family and I have lived in many cities across this great country. To us, Ottawa is one of a kind. My family is so happy to call this great city home. Our family looks forward to making many memories, including spending time together, doing our part to help others in our region and at Bruyère.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter; it comes from my heart to yours and it is an opportunity and request that I take very seriously. Thank you for your continued support of Bruyère!

Bruyère Foundation events bring our community together to help enhance lives and transform care. Having fun while raising money is a great prescription for success. Foundation events can range from a Broadway production or golf tournament to a
fundraising breakfast or research gala.

Events of any size make a difference in the lives of our patients, residents and their families.

When you attend an event, support a community event in your area or organize your own event, you help raise vital funds for healthcare research and patient care.

Not to mention special events give you the perfect opportunity to network, thank employees, recognize clients, grow relationships and raise money for Bruyère!
