Innovation Program Navigator

The Bruyère Research Institute partners with Bruyère, the University of Ottawa and other stakeholders to conduct relevant and practical health sciences research related to medical education and improving the quality of life for the aging population and people requiring continuing care.


Function Summary

The Innovation Program Navigator will be joining Bruyère’s nationally recognized Health Innovation Team (Bruyère Innovation (bruyereinnovation.ca) as we advance the development, evaluation, adoption, and scaling of healthcare technologies within Bruyère and across Canada.

As an internal champion of innovation at Bruyère, this role will be responsible for:

Supporting Bruyère innovation efforts.

Working with individuals and teams across the hospital, and potentially across other partner healthcare institutions, to identify innovation opportunities and pain points that could be improved through the adoption of novel technologies.

Working with partners to identify viable technologies that could solve the stated challenge upon identifying opportunities.

Leading the coordination of internal innovation projects while working within the larger Bruyère Innovation team, and with our diverse innovation partners.

Serving as a liaison between different departments and industry partners and ensuring effective communication and collaboration throughout the innovation journey.

This role requires a blend of stakeholder management, project coordination, and strong interpersonal skills to navigate complex challenges and to set the stage for successful innovation projects that can improve quality care at Bruyère and beyond.


Main duties and responsibilities

  • Coordinating the identification of internal challenges that novel technologies or other innovations could address, working in collaboration with clinical and administrative individuals and teams across Bruyère
  • Fostering a culture of innovation within the organization by organizing workshops, training sessions, and events to promote creative thinking, problem-solving, and idea generation
  • Facilitating the ideation process, guiding teams through brainstorming sessions and workshops
  • Identifying and addressing roadblocks and challenges that may arise through the ideation, commercialization, and implementation phases and demonstrate pro-active problem-solving skills
  • Working with teams to develop business cases for potential innovation challenges and solutions
  • Working with our partners to co-develop project charters
  • Coordinating projects: from project ideation and development to project implementation, evaluation, and completion
  • Implementing systems and tools for the Innovation team, including internal policies and identifying opportunities for efficiency
  • Creating business cases and justify budgets based on project requirements and contents
  • Supporting the tracking, reconciliation of expenses against budget and projections of future expenses, as required
  • Supporting the creation of projections of future expenses, as required
  • Completing reporting requirements for funders
  • Facilitating screenings and intake of prospective innovations from companies, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and strategies.
  • Implementing systems and tools for capturing, tracking, evaluating, and prioritizing innovation solutions
  • Building proactively relationships with internal and external partners, fostering a network of innovation champions
  • Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of outreach and engagement activities, tracking key performance indicators, gather feedback, and identify areas for improvement
  • Providing input and insights to inform the strategic direction of the Bruyère’s innovation program, based on stakeholder feedback, industry trends, and community needs
  • Adhering to the Tri-Council Policy Statement on Research Ethics (TCPS-2) and Personal Health Information Protection Act in the handling of confidential information, as required
  • Additional duties may be added as projects progress


Required Qualifications and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in Business Administration or Healthcare Administration
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience working within healthcare environment(s)
  • Experience collaborating with industry partners to find product market fit
  • Development of processes to support effective & efficient project coordination and prioritization
  • Developing business cases for change initiatives
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work in a team environment, and proactively engage with, build and maintain internal and external stakeholder relationships
  • Ability to prioritize and keep track of multiple projects, tasks, and connections at varying stages of implementation, as well as competing stakeholders, manage overlapping project phases and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to network with clinical and administrative teams, to identify and articulate challenges
  • Strong ability to foster community and to capture success stories to deepen engagement and foster a culture of innovation across the organization
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Strong financial administration
  • Flexibility to adapt to a dynamic project environment
  • Fluent in French and English, an asset
