Preventive Maintenance Technician

Function Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Facilities and under the guidance of the senior preventive maintenance technician, this role performs corrective and preventive maintenance on a wide variety of patient care equipment, appliances, and other mechanical and refrigeration equipment. This role acts as first responder to troubleshoot and repair various non-HVAC building components outside regular business hours.

Required Qualifications

  • Two (2) year Community college diploma from a recognized institution or apprenticeship program in a relevant field such as Building Maintenance, HVAC & Refrigeration
  • Minimum of three (3) years of diversified work experience in the maintenance of buildings and equipment, preferably in a hospital environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Valid Ontario or Inter-provincial license in a trade related to building maintenance

  • Ability to perform activities requiring considerable standing, walking, bending, reaching, pulling/pushing and transferring equipment and material.
  • Ability to demonstrate respect, patience and compassion toward patients and residents.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to understand forms and reports when working from blueprints or specifications.
  • Strong visual acuity for reading blueprints and working with small parts.
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to a changing work environment.
  • Ability to work with little supervision and to exercise independent decision making and judgement in the performance of all duties.
  • Ability to work safely and effectively with maintenance tools and equipment.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
